Renting Flat – How it works?

Rented flat heating legal advice needed please?
Posted by: | Commentshave been a tenant in a privately rented flat for 6 years-always paid my rent on time and been a good tenant.
It has a gas central heating system that has kept breaking down-and the landlord kept fixing.
It has now totally gone, and the spare part needed to repair it,is now obsolete-so he would have to replace the bolier-which he says is too expensive.
He has brought me a few plug-in electrci heaters and said that is all he is prepared to do.
So now I have no proper central heating, and it will cost a lot more to not keep as warm !
They are just plug in radiators-expensive and inadequate-I won`t even be able to dry clothes on a clothes horse very fast now.
I work full time, and the landlord was very strict about that-but I may as well rent a cheaper flat now.
Does anyone know where I stand legally?

What site can I look for flats to rent which are affordable for a 18/19 year old?
Posted by: | CommentsSo I’m looking to move out, but I dont know anything about renting a flat and stuff, all I know is you can pay weekly or monthly (pcm) ? And when they say 2 bedroom flat, does it mean you share the house like its a hostel but obviously get your own room? Or is it your own actual flat? And is there any other interests or anything depending on what wages you get and stuff? And one other thing, “rent” does it usually mean your stay is like temporary? Sorry about the questions! Im a bit slow.
What should i do about this flat?
Posted by: | CommentsI’m 32 and have moved into a flatshare. It was supposed to be for 6 months until I get a mortagage but that looks shaky now with all the turmoil in the mortgage market. Anyway the flat is a bit shabby with only a tiny living room and kitchen and my flatmates are younger than me, I’m worried I’ve made a
wrong move even though it’s cheap and i a good location. Should I pack my stuff and flee? I haven’t signed a lease yet. Living with aprents just now but that isn’t even a short term option. What do you think I can do?
Agreeing to a Statutory Periodic Tenancy?
Posted by: | CommentsHi,
Me and my partner moved into a flat just under 6 months ago, and signed a 6 months short hold tenancy. As we are not approaching the last few weeks I received and email from my landlord asking if we would like to enter a statutory periodic tenancy after the Short Hold Tenancy comes to an end. We agreed over email.
1 Day later, me and my partner decided to withdraw our agreement over email as we had found a new flat. We stated we would like to vacate the property on the original date of 16th Feb and end the contract there.
He replied telling us that as we have agreed to a statutory periodic tenancy, the earliest date from which we can give notice is the 17th of Feb, therefore meaning we have to pay one extra month now on top.
I would like to know if, as we haven’t yet entered the period after our short hold tenancy runs out, do his terms actually apply? For example, I was under the impression that the Statutory Periodic Tenancy would only begin once our original contract ended, not before.
Please help as i don’t want to pay for a whole month we are not living here!!!!!
Thanks
