no contract is month to month in most states, that means 30 day notice is needed from either party.without contract no rules.call or go to equal housing get information.

It depends on your state, but usually without a lease a landlord has to give you only 30 days notice to move out, despite their original intentions. Things change. Sorry, but I think you have to move.

All she has to do is give you notice to move. In some states that is 60 days, in others just 30. But she has that right – if you do not move on the date given she can contact an attorney and a sheriff will arrive at your home, the sheriff will send you the date and time. When the sheriff arrives they will tell you to get out and then all the locks on the door will be changed. Your landlord can then make arrangements for you to get your stuff – but can charge you storage fees.

Sorry this is happening to you.

if you don’t have a contract or “lease” then it’s automaticaly a month-to-month. this means you have to give 30 days notice before you’re leaving, and they have to give you 30-days notice before they make you leave. what your landlord is doing is completely legal. time to move.

if there is no contract you should have suspected from the start that you could be asked to move at any time. The only way I see for you is to try to negotiate this with the owner. Tell them your situation about school and ask if you can stay until then. Otherwise make plans to move and maybe move in with family who owns a home until school is out. Or, if you’re really stuck, go looking for an apartment and move in there and keep your children at the school they’re in or move them to a new school. The next place you go to be sure you think about your children’s needs and sign a contract that will run thru the entire school year. Frankly you don’t have any rights without a contract. Your only hope is to negotiate this with the owner.
