Websites for finding a room/flat to rent in London? ?

i already know of gumtree. what are other good websites? i’m looking for a fairly cheap room in zone 1-2 to rent for 3 to 6 months. a google search came up with many websites, but i want to know which are the good ones.
also, as a general rule, which areas are definitely bad places to live in? i heard the north is quite rough..

Is it cheaper to rent a furnished flat in London or an unfurnished one?

We are looking to move to London soon and we were wondering if it is cheaper to rent a furnished apartment or an unfurnished one? If the apartment is furnished do you have to pay extra to have the furniture removed?

It doesn’t matter if it’s North or South london, we just need the area to be well connected to the center of London.
