Rented flat heating legal advice needed please?
Posted by: | Commentshave been a tenant in a privately rented flat for 6 years-always paid my rent on time and been a good tenant.
It has a gas central heating system that has kept breaking down-and the landlord kept fixing.
It has now totally gone, and the spare part needed to repair it,is now obsolete-so he would have to replace the bolier-which he says is too expensive.
He has brought me a few plug-in electrci heaters and said that is all he is prepared to do.
So now I have no proper central heating, and it will cost a lot more to not keep as warm !
They are just plug in radiators-expensive and inadequate-I won`t even be able to dry clothes on a clothes horse very fast now.
I work full time, and the landlord was very strict about that-but I may as well rent a cheaper flat now.
Does anyone know where I stand legally?
Legal standing over heating in my rented flat?

I did take the flat because it had full gas central heating, when I moved in,and if I moved out-I`m sure he would have to mend it to attract renters-and rent`s high.
im having a problem trying to decided how to go about renting a private flat with dss…
ok since i was 16 and left school i have always been in full time employment earning my way and paying my taxes. So please don’t think im some low life sponger. I come from a hard working family who are financially stable and happy.
To get to the point, i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in january and have been receiving private health care for this since, but because of my mental state of mind and how i find it hard to cope with situations i have been signed off sick from working. Anyway i find out 18 weeks ago that im pregnant with my long term boyfriend of 4 years child. Obviously after thinking long and hard about the fact i have no job to support this child i realise its not the child’s fault i was as stupid to put myself in this situation, so i chose to keep it.
Unfortunately my other half didn’t seem to take responsibility very well and left claiming my mental health issue has drove him away… to keep a long story short my psychiatrist has advised i am housed before the birth as i could deteriorate. But i hate looking around these Lovely flats and thinking i have to tell them im dss! as many them don’t like it because of the stereotype people who normally claim..its actually really embarrassing i keep thinking of white lies telling the agents a story to cover the real reason. and even though id love to be able to just pay my way myself i cant!
i need to know if anyone else has been in this situation and if its possible to save the embarrassment sign the tenancy, play deposit and first months rent then claim the dss and pay from their on. Or shall i meet the landlord and tell him my situation and hope he realises i am a descent person who has just fallen into unfortunate circumstances….PLEASE HELP!! thanks.
mamabas thanks for you comment my family support me the best they can but i cannot and will not expect them to bail me out of financial problems. they can advise but i wanted an opinion from someone who may have been in the same situation so i knew what kind of way to go about this.
