rent short term apartment

we are planning to rent the apartment in paris for 10 days and the owner of it claims that he needs a 300 euros deposit and a copy of my and my fiances passport,is that normal thing to do when renting short term?
to me it sounds kinda fishy ,because where is the guarantee that he is going to give us those 300 euros back and why the heck does he need a passport copy?!

every answer is appreciated!

rent flat temporary
I informed the Property Management & “friend” I am renting from, that I was not going to continue to pay rent until the “friend”, who’s name is on the lease adds me as a tenant. The rent is now 2 months in default. The “friend” gave the Property Management a letter stating that I am a temporary guest, a non-responsible party. He flat out refuses to add me to the lease. He has since, lost his job and wants me to pay him directly in cash. there is no way I’m going to do that! The Property Management said since he has added me to lease as non-responsible party I am not responsible for rent. He tried to give me a Photocopy of a 3 day notice. The notice had no signatures, was not notarized & he doesn’t work for the sheriff. I changed the top lock because he was coming in the apt when I wasn’t there. He broke the window and came in the apt so I called police. He also threatened me and my father when we confronted him.

I’m considering going there for a few months but not for long and I don’t want to be tied to a long term contract or the expense of a short term let on an apartment. Is there a culture of sharing flats or houses or even renting just a room in or around Antwerp and if so what are the average Euro costs for this?

short term house contract

Hi,

My boyfriend and i moved into a new house on the 21st december 2007.
we had agreed with the landlord a period of 6 months.
He signed the contracts and gave them to us to complete and return.
However we didnt complete the contracts, and he didnt ask for them back.

He was under the impression though that we had all signed the contract.
Now we have been living there for 7 months and we are moving out on saturday (tomorrow) As there were never any contracts and even if there were they would have expired now, do you think we can move out without giving notice?
